Iran, Tajikistan to bilaterally scrap visas for truck drivers from March

TEHRAN – Iran and Tajikistan have set to abolish visa requirements for each other’s international transport drivers starting in early March, Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

A senior Tajik foreign ministry official told local media the move was agreed under a bilateral arrangement between the two governments.

Under the agreement, international truck drivers and assistant drivers holding ordinary Tajik or Iranian passports will be allowed to enter each other’s territory without a visa through all border crossing points, the official said.

Eligible drivers will be permitted to stay in the host country for up to 30 days within any 90-day period without obtaining a visa.

The Tajik foreign ministry told Asia-Plus the measure would facilitate international transportation, strengthen trade and economic cooperation, and improve logistics profitability between the two countries.

The lifting of visa requirements for land transport was discussed in April 2025 during a meeting between Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, the ministry said.

Earlier in 2025, Tajikistan and Iran abolished visa requirements for air travel between all cities in both countries, allowing citizens to travel by air without a visa and stay for up to 30 days within a 90-day period.

Despite the air travel agreement, visas have remained mandatory for land travel, a requirement that will now be removed for international transport drivers under the new arrangement.
